| To enhance scientific and technological capabilities and support scientific research in Australia in the field of neuroscience | |
| Facilitate research, education and other similar programs in the field of neuroscience | |
| Advocate on behalf of Australian neuroscience research institutes domestically and internationally | |
| Arrange funding for Australian neuroscience research from Commonwealth and State Governments, industry and non-governmental sources | |
| Represent it's members in respect of neuroscience research as an independent body | |
| Promote Australia as a centre of excellence for neuroscience research | |
| Foster, promote and develop common use of scientific infrastructure and associated services and facilities in the field of neuroscience research | |
| Facilitate major cross-institutional and interstate research projects by arranging funding that allows such projects to be undertaken | |
| Ensure that the benefits of major cross-institutional and/or interstate research projects are shared by all parties collaborating in those projects. | |
| Increase the body of learning, knowledge, skill, expertise and experience in the field of neuroscience in Australia | |
| Enter into agreements or arrangements on behalf of Australian neuroscience research institutes for the commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights | |
| Ensure that all Australians enjoy the benefits of neuroscience research | |
