The Clinical Neurobiology of Psychiatry is the NNF's eighth and newest platform. Currently, the platform is in development phase, with most groups fully funded.

The platform brings into partnership researchers from five leading psychiatric and neuropsychological research groups, namely; The Mental Health Research Institute of Victoria (MHRI), the Orygen Research Centre (ORC), the Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre (MNC), Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, the Centre for Developmental Psychiatry and Psychology at Monash University and the Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (APRC).

The main purpose of this platform is to create an arena for collaborative neuropsychiatric research through the application of new technologies, shared knowledge and directed effort. Such collaboration has the potential to create a world-class concentration of multidisciplinary endeavour in research and education across Melbourne, providing the nucleus for a southern hemisphere equivalent to the integration of the UK's Institute of Psychiatry (which has clinical research at the psychiatric hospitals associated with Kings College).

The research focus of this platform is on the identification of the underlying biology of psychiatric disorders, in particular looking for biological markers which would be useful in diagnosis and prognosis in the areas of cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychiatry and psychiatric bio-banking.
